Dr. Matthias Reinschmidt, born in 1964, earned his diploma in biology from the University of Tübingen and completed his Ph.D. at the University of Giessen. A passionate parrot specialist, he served as the editor of the magazine PAPAGEIEN from 1993 to 2001. Between 2001 and 2010, he was the curator at Loro Parque and Loro Parque Fundación, eventually becoming the Zoological Director in 2010.

Since July 2015, he has been the Zoo Director at Zoo Karlsruhe, where he founded the Zoo Karlsruhe Conservation Foundation in 2016. He has contributed to hundreds of TV documentaries from Loro Parque and Zoo Karlsruhe and has been producing a 90-minute conservation documentary annually with German TV legend Frank Elstner for SWR for over ten years. He has authored nine books on parrots, zoos, and conservation and has shared his knowledge in hundreds of professional articles.

In 2023, he was honoured with the Premio Gorila 2022.
