Asian elephant, Thailand

According to the IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature), the Asian elephant is an endangered species that currently inhabits India and different countries in Southeast Asia up to Sumatra.

Major threats facing Asian elephants include habitat loss and fragmentation, human-elephant conflict, poaching and illegal trade. As elephant habitats diminish and fragment, human-elephant interaction increases, resulting in intense conflicts that cause fatalities on both sides, as well as damage to human property.

Loro Parque Fundación collaborates with the Thai Elephant Alliance Association, an organization concerned with the welfare of Thai elephants associated with the tourism industry, which during the global pandemic of 2020 have been affected by the closure of the country to international tourists.
